Starry-eyed teenager days
during hot humid Houston nights
breeze licking lovely on my skin
while we ride through town on run-down jeeps
arms wide open in delicious joy
At twenty six, I’m still the same
Instead in Tulum, with silks and linen
The salt I wear on sticky hair
My pocket lined with playful secrets
So much I’ve seen of love that flows,
receiving luck that’s right
around the corner, the streetlight glows
I’m blessed with soulful vision
Without regret I push ahead
my heart just welcomes open
A thousand times I’ve died before
but tomorrow’s for evolving
to learn to stay the steady state
of belly-deep laughing
